SUMMARY:Human Trafficking in the QCA: What you Need to Know
DESCRIPTION:It's unfortunate but true human trafficking can happen anywhere\, at any time\, and to any person. It's a growing issue for communities nationwide\, and the Quad Cities is no exception. Learn more about what human trafficking really is\, how it happens\, and how you can be a part of the solution with Human Trafficking in the QCA: What you Need to Know on Tuesday\, January 17\, from 6 - 7:30 p.m.\n\n\n\nEastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) and Family Resources of the Quad Cities have partnered to offer this free class at the colleges' Scott Community College Urban Campus\, 101 W. Third Street\, Davenport\, IA.\n\n\n\nLed by Sara\, a Survivor Advocate with Braking Traffik\, you'll discuss commonly-used recruitment tactics traffickers use to control their victims\; factors that make it challenging for victims to leave\; how to identify human trafficking situations\; and ways to support survivors and utilize resources that are available.\n\n\n\nThe session will take place in classrooms W114/115. To register for the class\, visit eicc.edu/trafficking. All are welcome to attend\, but we ask each participant to register individually.\n\n\n\nParking is available on streets directly around the campus\, in the Harrison Ramp located in the 300 block of W. Second Street\, or the Redstone Parking Ramp\, located in the 100 block of W. River Drive.\n\n\n\nBraking Traffik and Family Resources provide services survivors need\, including housing\, counseling\, medical and court advocacy\, while collaborating with law enforcement and other community agencies\; training and public awareness around trafficking issues\; and safety and well-being of victims.\n\n\n\nSara is trauma-informed and has extensive experience working with human trafficking survivors\, from Thailand to the Quad Cities. She has also spent time working with local inner-city youth and at-risk youth who are involved in court and foster care systems.
